  1. quasar: The name ΓÇ£quasarΓÇ¥ comes
  2. from ΓÇ£quasi-stellarΓÇ¥ and was given to
  3. points in the sky that were like stars
  4. but did not have starlike spectra.
  5. Astronomers now believe quasars are
  6. extremely distant galaxies, which we
  7. see because of a powerful energy
  8. source at their center. These sources,
  9. thought to produce more energy than
  10. anything else in the universe, may be
  11. black holes.
